10 Questions Everyone Asks About Sighting Dolphins in a Kayak (Before Booking)

Index

You have seen the pictures. You have read the articles. You have already decided that you would like to experience kayaking in Golfo Aranci with KayakingMoresca.

Then comes the moment to click on “Book”. And the mind starts asking questions.

Hundreds of questions.

It is normal. It happens to everyone. Even me, the first time I booked a tour (and I work there now).

We collected the 10 most frequently asked questions we receive before each booking. Here are the answers, clear and honest, to remove any doubts.

1. I have never been kayaking. Can I participate?

Of course we do!

Most of our guests had never set foot in a kayak before the tour. This is absolutely normal.

Our kayaks are designed to be stable and easy to manoeuvre. You don't need experience. You don't need to be an athlete. You just need to know how to swim (and even there, with a life jacket, you can make an exception).

Before leaving, the guide explains everything:

  • How to hold the paddle
  • How to paddle forwards (and backwards, for those who take the wrong direction)
  • How to steer
  • What to do in case of... nothing, in case of nothing, because it's easy

After 10 minutes of explanation, you are ready. And after 10 minutes of paddling, you'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier.

The truth: Kayaking is one of the most intuitive water sports in existence. If you can walk, you can paddle. The rest takes care of itself.

2. Is it dangerous? What if I tip over?

Let's start with the data: in 10 years of touring, with thousands of guests, capsizes can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And they have always been caused by extreme manoeuvres (like standing up) or exceptional weather conditions.

Why is it so stable?

  • Sea kayaks have a very low centre of gravity
  • They are wide and designed to float perfectly
  • Even if you move, the kayak adapts

But what if it happens?

Nothing serious. The water is warm. You have a life jacket (compulsory, provided by us). The guide is there in seconds. We help you up (it's very easy, you just need to know the technique) and you have an epic story to tell.

The truth: The real danger is not the kayak. It is the sun without cream. That's bad for you.

3. Can children participate?

Absolutely!

Children are welcome. In fact, they are often the most enthusiastic.

  • Minimum recommended age: 4 years
  • How it works: Young children (4-10 years) stay in a kayak with a parent. The kayaks are tandem, so there is room for two.
  • Security: We supply life jackets in all sizes, even for small children.
  • What children like: Dolphins, snorkelling, the feeling of “sailing” like pirates. The aperitif on the beach is the most awaited moment (also by the parents).

Tip for parents: If your child is very young (4-5 years old), choose the standard duration tour (2.5-3 hours). It is perfect for their attention span. The sunrise tour is more suitable for older children or adults.

4. What happens if we don't see dolphins?

This is the question we are most often asked. And it is absolutely right.

Dolphins are wild animals. We cannot guarantee them at 100%. It is not an aquarium, it is not a planned show.

That said:

  • The sighting rate is higher than 95%
  • The area around Figarolo Island has been permanently frequented by a pod of bottlenose dolphins for over 10 years
  • We know their schedules, their movements, their habits
  • We choose the best times (early morning) to maximise the possibilities

What if they just don't show up?

It happens rarely, but it can happen. In that case, anyway:

  • Pagai in one of the most beautiful seas of the Mediterranean
  • Snorkelling in crystal-clear waters
  • Visit coves only accessible by kayak
  • Enjoy an aperitif on the beach with typical products
  • The guide tells stories and curiosities about the sea

The truth: The tour is beautiful even without dolphins. With dolphins it is unforgettable. But even without, you won't regret it.

5. How long is the tour? Is it tiring?

Duration: Approximately 2.5 - 3 hours, including explanations, stops and aperitif.

Fatigue: It depends on you. You can paddle more or less intensively. You can stop when you want to. You can float and look at the view.

The rhythm is designed to be accessible to all. It is not a race. It is a walk in the sea.

Council: If you have particular health problems (heart, back, etc.), consult your doctor first. But in general, it is a suitable activity for everyone.

6. What should I bring? What do you provide?

We provide:

  • Kayak and paddle
  • Life jacket (mandatory)
  • Waterproof bag for your belongings (if necessary)
  • Expert guide
  • Water and aperitif (included)
  • Tour photos (we'll send them to you later)

You must bring:

  • Costume (already worn)
  • T-shirt (better technical or anti-UV)
  • Cap (with string, if possible)
  • Sunglasses (with string, essential)
  • Sun cream 50+ (waterproof)
  • Rock shoes (or sandals with fasteners)
  • Change of clothes (to be left in the car for later)
  • Towel (microfibre, best)
  • Lots of fun

What NOT to bring:

  • Unprotected valuables
  • Flip-flops (fly away)
  • Huge terrycloth towels (they weigh and do not dry)
  • Glass food (dangerous)

7. What if it rains or the sea is rough?

The weather in Sardinia is generally good, but a bad day can happen.

What we do:

  • We monitor weather conditions in real time
  • If the sea is too rough or the wind is strong, postpone the tour at a better date
  • We will notify you in advance (if possible) and agree together
  • If you cannot reprogramme, we refund or we give a voucher

Safety first. You don't go out if the conditions are not good. But usually, even when the weather seems uncertain, we find a sheltered corner.

The secret: The guides know the coast palm to palm. They know where the sea is calm even when it is rough elsewhere.

8. Can I bring my phone to take pictures?

Of course you can! But with a key recommendationprotect him.

How to protect it:

  • Waterproof case (the serious one, not the re-sealable pouch)
  • Neck lace (so if it falls into the water it doesn't sink)
  • Just these two things and you're all set

If you don't have the case: Leave it at the hotel or in the car. We take photos during the tour and give them to you. Don't risk ruining your phone for a photo we can take.

The extra tip: If you have a GoPro, bring it. It's the perfect moment.

9. Are there any weight or height limits?

Our kayaks are designed to accommodate all builds.

  • Maximum weight per single kayak: Approx. 120-130 kg
  • Maximum weight for double kayaks: Approximately 200-220 kg in total
  • Height: The kayaks have enough space for people over 190 cm

If you have specific concerns, please contact us before booking. We always find a solution.

The important thing: Let us know in advance so we can prepare the right equipment.

10. How does the booking work? Do I have to pay immediately?

Reservation:

  • You can book directly from our website
  • Choose date, time and number of participants
  • Receive immediate confirmation by email

Payment:

  • You can pay online by credit card

Cancellation:

  • If you cancel on time, full refund
  • If you cancel later, we try to catch up (depending on availability)
  • If we cancel due to bad weather, refund or voucher

Council: In high season (July-August), book in advance. Places fly.

Bonus: Other Questions We Often Receive

Q: Is it possible to eat on board?

A: Not during paddling, for obvious reasons. But during the aperitif on the beach yes, and how!

Q: Can dogs come?

A: Usually not, for safety and respect for other guests. In exceptional cases (private tour, small and used dog), please contact us.

Q: What happens if I get seasick?

A: The kayak is so stable and close to the water that seasickness is very rare. But if you know you are sensitive, take your precautions.

Q: Is it possible to snorkel?

A: Yes! We include snorkelling stops in the most beautiful waters. Bring your mask (or we'll lend you one).

Q: How far are we from the shore?

A: Never too far away. At any point, the coast is visible and reachable in a few minutes.
