📋 Security protocols:
Mandatory briefing before each departure
Lifejacket for all (compulsory)
VHF radio for emergency communications
Constant monitoring of weather and sea conditions
Are the guides certified? What training do they have?
Our guides are not just escorts, but maritime professionals with specific expertise.
Training of guides:
First aid certification and BLSD (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation)
In-depth knowledge the territory of Golfo Aranci, Capo Figari and Figarolo Island
Specific training on responsible dolphin watching
Language skills (Italian and English fluent)
🌊 Marine skills:
Perfect knowledge of local currents and winds
Ability to read weather conditions
Recovery techniques in water
Management of groups and emergency situations
What happens in case of bad weather or rough seas?
There is no question of security: if conditions are not optimal, the excursion does not start. Or at least, not as planned!
☀️ Our weather policy:
| Condition | What happens |
|---|---|
| Calm sea, good weather | Regular excursion |
| Moderate wind | Evaluation: we start but with a protected path |
| Rough sea / strong wind | Excursion cancelled or moved |
| Storm/weather warning | Excursion cancelled |
📞 How we handle cancellations:
We warn you at least 2 hours before (often the day before)
We propose alternatives:
Shift to another date
Full reimbursement (if you cannot recover)
- We propose another similar activity to be done on the same day at the same time
No penalty for you, of course!
What do you do when you meet dolphins?
This is the most exciting part of the hike, but it must be done with the utmost respect for animals. The dolphins of Golfo Aranci are free and wild, and we want them to stay that way.
Our code of conduct (official rules):
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Keeping a safe distance (minimum 50-100 metres) | Not to stress them |
| Don't chase them | They must feel free to leave |
| Do not touch them | They are wild animals, not toys |
| Do not make sudden noises | We respect their environment |
| Do not feed them | They must maintain natural habits |
| Do not come between mother and puppy | Golden rule of respect |
✨ What we do:
Let's turn off the engines (we are in a kayak or SUP, already silent!).
We remain in passive observation
Let the dolphins come closer if they want to
We explain their behaviour to the participants
Photos: Dolphins are curious! They often approach on their own, and there you can take the most beautiful photos, always without disturbing them.
Is hiking sustainable? What impact does it have on the environment?
Zero or almost zero impact! Kayaking and SUP are among the most environmentally friendly means of exploring the sea.
🌱 Because we are sustainable:
| Appearance | Our Commitment |
|---|---|
| Emissions | Zero! Human-powered, no engines |
| Noise | Absolute silence, we do not disturb wildlife and other bathers |
| Waste | We take away everything we bring (and sometimes even what we find!). |
| Sun cream | We recommend creams eco-friendly (coral- and plankton-friendly) |
| Small groups | Less impact, more respect |
🧹 Beach clean up: We organise voluntary beach cleaning initiatives. Ask us if you want to participate!
📚 Environmental education: During guided tours we tell people about the marine ecosystem and the importance of preserving it. Our guests become ambassadors of the sea!
Is there a risk of jellyfish or other dangerous animals?
Jellyfish in the Mediterranean are there, but in Golfo Aranci they are infrequent and generally not dangerous.
💙 The animals you can meet:
| Animal | Dangerousness | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Common jellyfish (sea lung) | ⚠️ Slight irritation | Rinse with salt water, not soft water |
| Small jellyfish (pelagia) | 🔴 More stinging | Avoid contact, warn the guide |
| Sea urchins | ⚠️ In the background | Be careful where you put your feet (shoes!) |
| Dolphins | ✅ Zero | Enjoy the show! |
| Groupers, breams, seabreams | ✅ Zero | Fantastic snorkelling |
🩹 In case of contact with jellyfish:
Rinse with salt water (never sweet, makes the situation worse)
Do not rub with sand
Apply fresh compress if necessary
The guide has a first aid kit
👟 The best defence: Le rock shoes protect against urchins and make it easier to walk on the rocks. Always wear them!
How to recognise responsible behaviour in kayaking/SUP?
Here is our decalogue of the responsible kayaker that we share with all guests:
Respect the sea:
1.Do not leave waste (not even a candy wrapper)
2.Do not collect shells, starfish, coral (leave them where they are)
3. Do not step on posidonia (it is a protected plant, fundamental to the ecosystem)
Respect animals:
4. Watch the dolphins from afar (if they want, they will approach them)
5. Do not chase fish or birds (we are guests in their habitat)
6. Do not feed any animals (not even fish)
Respect others:
7. Do not pass too close to bathers (keep your distance)
8. Do not make noise (silence is the luxury of kayakers)
9. Say hello, you're on holiday! (a smile costs nothing)
🤝 Respect yourself:
10. Do not overdo it: if you are tired, come back. The sea does not run away!
